Michael Graves is seeking an Architectural Designer to join the Shelter studio in our Latham office. The studio evaluates, designs and manages roof and building enclosure systems for institutional clients throughout New York State. This role combines field investigation, technical design, construction documentation, digital information management and construction phase services.
Ideal candidate will be detail oriented, comfortable working on large scale technical projects and able to move confidently between roof and facade assessments, digital field records, drawings, specifications, reports and client communication. Experience with commercial roofing or building enclosure systems is strongly preferred.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree in architecture, architectural technology, building science, engineering, construction management or a related field. An equivalent combination of technical education and directly relevant experience may be considered.
- Approximately six or more years of relevant professional experience. Candidates with a different combination of experience and specialized roof or building enclosure knowledge may also be considered.
- Experience with institutional or commercial building systems. Experience with modified bitumen, single ply roofing or other building enclosure systems is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, including experience producing coordinated technical documentation.
- Ability to independently apply technical concepts, investigate unfamiliar conditions and develop practical recommendations with appropriate oversight.
- Strong time management, organization, written communication and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to complete, accurate documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage several assignments and meet project deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams and Office applications.
• Comfort using digital systems to collect, manage, review and communicate project information. Coding and application development experience are not required. - Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and to access roof areas and active construction sites, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Investigate, assess and document existing roof and facade conditions, including water penetration and building enclosure performance issues.
- Collect, organize and verify field information using mobile devices, WISDM and other digital information systems.
- Evaluate technical conditions and contribute to recommendations that address client needs, performance, cost, schedule and constructability.
- Prepare and coordinate architectural models, drawings and details using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Produce presentations, planning reports, technical reports, specifications and design and construction documents.
- Develop project budgets, construction cost estimates and project schedules with guidance from project leadership.
- Research code requirements, building materials, roof systems and product information, with oversight from licensed staff where required.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews of drawings, specifications, reports, field data and digital content.
- Perform construction observation, document work in progress and prepare clear field reports.
- Coordinate assigned work with project managers, architects, consultants, contractors and client representatives.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced staff when appropriate.
- Travel to project sites within New York State approximately twice a month, with occasional overnight travel.
Annual Salary: $72,000 – $88,000, based on experience and qualifications

Michael Graves is looking for a senior accountant to join our team in our Washington DC Location. This position reports directly to the CFO. The position will be responsible for all general ledger accounting activities. The right candidate must have excellent organizational skills and be able to communicate professionally with all levels of management, customers, suppliers, and staff. Additionally, they must maintain the highest professional and ethical standards. This position puts the right candidate on track to be our next Business Unit Controller in our accounting team.
Finance and Accounting Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all month-end closing activities including the preparation of journal entries as needed.
- Manage client billing process which includes meeting with the project team and the creation of monthly invoices and submittal to clients.
- Assist with the monthly aging reporting and collections. Give timely updates to Principals and Project managers on the status of A/R.
- Review all A/P invoice payment requests for proper documentation and accurate coding, and record in accounting system. Ensure timely payments.
- Enter subcontractor invoices timely in Deltek and verify the correct project and contract amounts.
- Responsible for financial reporting to internal stakeholders on monthly results and key performance indicators.
- Responsible for compliance with company fiscal plans, policies, and controls.
- Responsible for preparing daily cash reports in support of Treasury Management including posting all deposits, checks, wire transfers in and out and clearing A/R.
- Update asset schedule (lease and purchase) regularly and post depreciation monthly
- Prepare bank and account reconciliations.
- Assist in budgeting & forecasting.
- Establish and maintain project numbers and information in financial system.
- Request and gather W-9 documentation from subcontractors and assist in annual processing of 1099s.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, preferably in an Architecture, Engineering or Construction environment
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Microsoft Office suite, intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Familiar with enterprise level financial software, Deltek Vision and/or Vantagepoint experience a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Must be eligible to work in the United States with no further sponsorship needed
The salary range for this position is $90,000-$100,000. Salary commensurate with experience.

Michael Graves is looking for a creative, talented, and team-oriented Architect II with experience in K-12 Education to join our dynamic internationally acclaimed team. Ideal candidates should be passionate about design, work well in a collaborative team environment, and communicate ideas and approaches in a clear and thoughtful manner. We are looking to fill in-person only position in our Winston-Salem location.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- A professional degree in architecture (B.Arch., M. Arch) required.
- Minimum of six years of professional experience as a licensed professional.
- Minimum of eight years of professional experience in K-12 school projects.
- Participate in the design and documentation of K-12 education projects from concept through construction.
- Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client’s needs.
- Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects including consultants.
- Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs.
- Carries out complex and novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
- May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects.
- Performs code compliance activities.
- Participates in QA/QC.
- Participates and supports profitability, forecasting and professional development. (e.g., financial, contracts, staffing, mentoring)
- Must be proficient in Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Newforma, and E-specs
- Strong proficiency in conceptual design, design presentation and construction documentation
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD required.
- Strong modeling skills in 3ds Max and SketchUp required
- Strong graphic and presentation skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator) required.
- Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and energy
