Marpac’s Dohm sound machine, with its electromechanical fan, has been ensuring sound sleep for more than 50 years. In 2016, MGD earned the commission to collaborate with Marpac on the redesign of this flagship product. The appearance was updated with a new Marpac design language that connects across the Dohm family of products. Through the use of form and texture, the user interface for the Dohm Elite was made more intuitive. The redesigned Dohm Elite sets the stage for the next 50 years of growth and success for Marpac.
For some projects, transformation calls for a revolution, while in the case of the Marpac Dohm Elite, transformation was much more of an evolution that addresses the expectations of today’s consumers related to user interface, aesthetic appeal, and options that respond to individual preferences.
Being able to “dial-in” your perfect sleep sound makes the Dohm Elite unique. The flowing texture of the body communicates that it moves and provides finger grip to optimize the size of the vent opening and the recessed top makes that adjustment easy and apparent. Building off 50 years of success, the new Marpac design language is communicated through textures on the body of each device, the iconic feet which provide personality and stability, and color to appeal to varying décor and users.
