A forum for meeting global challenges

The Atlantic Council, an outgrowth of the NATO Alliance, acts as a forum for international affairs. We assisted the Council in identifying 1400 L Street NW for its new headquarters, upgraded the base building to a Class A facility, reconfigured the top two floors to create an outdoor terrace with prominent signage, and designed the tenant interiors. The conference center – at the rooftop and the floor below – includes a boardroom, 300-seat multi-purpose auditorium, and breakout meeting rooms that attract scholars, diplomats, and heads of state from all over the world to discuss political, economic, and security issues and shape policy choices.

Innovative donor acknowledgment

Pre-Function Area

An essential part of the program for the workplace and conference center was an artwork, signage, and environmental graphics program that recognizes sponsors and donors and celebrates the Atlantic Council’s global mission. From the outset, we integrated donor acknowledgment into the conception of the interior surfaces and signage, with flexibility for adjustment over time. This included installation of donated art, custom backlit graphics, and architecturally integrated signage, as well as naming certain spaces after the donors.
