Modernizing a historic building and its site

The project encompassed the renovation of a historic Art Deco school and a 12,696-SF expansion as well as improved site connections to the adjacent Eddie Murray Baseball Field. The building is organized as an academic wing with Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms on the ground floor and 2nd and 3rd Grade above, and a community wing with a food pantry, and assembly and meeting spaces.

Aerial view

The addition houses a cafeteria gymnasium, and media center, which has views to athletic fields, play areas, and community gathering clusters. Extensive asphalt paving was replaced with new playgrounds, plantings, stormwater bio-retention zones, and outdoor learning spaces.
