Working with Catawba College, a liberal arts college widely known for its commitment to sustainability and the environment, our team planned and designed additional housing options for the growing institution. As part of an overall master plan for Catawba College, we completed a survey of existing campus housing and developed a long-range master plan for future housing needs. The study resulted in the demolition of a 1960s dormitory and the design of five new residence halls. The five three-story buildings contain 120 beds in two housing formats, garden apartment style (four singles) and themed housing (two singles with bath, one double with bath, living area).

Since the completion of this project, and through the college’s ongoing push for sustainability, Catawba College became the 13th college nationwide and first certified institution in the Southeast to reach full carbon neutrality – well ahead of its 2030 climate commitment.
