A house on the river
By naming the house De Luwte — which translates as “The Lee,” a shelter from wind and water – our client promoted the importance of its location on the banks of the River Vecht outside Amsterdam. In planning the house, we therefore focused on how each area of the house relates to the river.

Continuity between landscape and interiors

In the plan, we oriented the living room, master bedroom and study directly facing the river. The kitchen and dining room open onto a series of outdoor terraces. A semi-circular stair draws daylight into the center of the plan, providing a graceful means of moving between floors.
