Education at the airport
The Mazie S. Woodruff Aviation Technology Lab is the new home of Forsyth Tech’s Aviation Systems Technology program. The 50,000-SF, two-story building was designed to allow for expansion as the program grows. The facility is located on the southwestern side of the Smith Reynolds Airport 33/15 main runway in Winston-Salem.
A variety of training facilities
Inside, a 16,000-SF hangar serves as an Airframe Lab, offering space for eight small to medium-sized aircraft. Adjacent to it are components labs for Sheet Metal, Piston/Turbine Engine, Aircraft Welding, Composite Structures, Avionics/Electrical, and Paint. Three general classrooms are provided along with support space including offices, conference room, library, and storage. The building also includes a student lounge and observation deck for viewing arriving and departing aircraft.
