Specialized science education spaces
This undergraduate sciences facility includes wet and dry teaching laboratories, vivaria (woodchucks, rodents, aquatics, and insectory), gross anatomy lab, maker space, collaborative study spaces, classrooms, lecture halls, a tutoring center, offices, and a 150-seat planetarium.
The large lobby offers a grand entry into the building, with a hallway that passes two glass-enclosed labs and leads to a planetarium featuring a 50-foot tilted dome and custom seating. The planetarium is ideal for astronomy, earth sciences, human anatomy, and cell biology classes, and community outreach and special events.
Blending with the context
The Wanek School accommodates growth in several undergraduate majors including biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and actuarial science. These programs complement High Point University’s physician assistant, pharmacy, and physical therapy graduate programs. The new facility is located adjacent to the Congdon School of Health Sciences and Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy, and its style blends with the existing Neo-Georgian architectural context of the campus.
