The Smokler Center for Jewish Life at Johns Hopkins University is located in the heart of this iconic urban campus. The facility is designed to respect the character of the existing streetscape, while using more-contemporary architectural language to re-interpret and express the classic building features of the surrounding historic Charles Village neighborhood.

Located on a narrow urban site, the Jewish Student Center is built on four levels and organized around a central trellised terrace, conceived to flood the heart of the building with daylight and to provide a space for the construction of a sukkah. From the large entry porch to the colorful interiors, the building is designed to be warm and welcoming where students feel “at home.” Interior spaces include a variety of lounges and multipurpose rooms to accommodate a full-complement of student activities, classes and prayer services for different denominations, a dining room and full-service kosher commercial kitchen, offices for staff and students, a library and a Beit Midrash.
