Leveraging the location
A regional pizza chain with a very recognizable and unique brand was interested in opening a restaurant in Winston-Salem. The local franchise owners, dreaming that their new restaurant could help revitalize Downtown Winston, called on us to help leverage their chosen location: a one-story, corner building on a pedestrian-friendly street. Our design recommendation was to transform the existing building’s facade into a transparent, new dining space that opened to adjacent sidewalk dining.
Pizza, pizza
Inside, we created a sense of urban edginess by exposing the structure and using industrial materials as finishes. Colorful pizza slices suspended like clouds from the ceiling, along with an open kitchen in the center of the space, call attention to the pizza-making operation. The dining area is flanked by a full-service bar on one end, and a one-of-a-kind mural created by local artist Millicent Greason, on the other.
