This challenging project restored the granite exterior of the 112-foot-high Memoria Belltower and its 48-foot-square plinth, as well as an interior marble-walled Shrine Room and the Memorial Tablet. In addition to historic preservation, the project included installation of a 55-bell carillon and playing cabin, new interior stairs, and upgraded mechanical and electrical systems. The improvements resolved accessibility and allowed the clockworks level to be occupied so that the carillon can be played onsite. The Belltower’s surrounding plaza was restored and a gradually ascending path was installed to provide universal accessibility.
