Two academies stacked in one building
Michael Graves planned the six-story building and designed the all-girls elementary and middle schools for over 1,000 PreK-8 students. The First Floor features a large “cafetorium” with a dedicated stage. It is served by the kitchen at one end and opens onto the lower portion of a two-level outdoor play roof. The Second Floor, where PreK, Kindergarten and First Grade core classrooms and Art and Science are located, opens onto a second play roof with stairs down to the lower level. Middle School general and specialized classrooms are stacked above Elementary School spaces. The gymnasium is located on the Fifth and Sixth Floors. Large-scale graphics and use of the school’s branded colors on walls and furniture create a lively learning environment and were integral to interior wayfinding.
