Ragamuffins Coffeehouse is an interior and exterior renovation project in downtown Laurel, Maryland. As a coffee shop, and “third place”, Ragamuffins adds to the local economy during the week, serving specialty coffee beverages, literature, and food, while functioning as a place for worship and community activities on weekends and evenings. Waldon Studio Architects, now Michael Graves Architecture’s design includes a new storefront and canopy system on the front facade, redefining the aesthetics and creating a more welcoming entrance. A warm, industrial feel has been created by using salvaged brick on the interior, and supplementing with the use of stainless steel, glass, rustic factory light fixtures, and refinished existing wood floors for an eclectic vintage-modern feel. Fresh furniture, fabrics, and colors help provide a comfortable environment for coffee-goers and meet-up groups.
