Honoring what came before
Located in Knoxville’s Fort Sanders historic district, Redeemer Church of Knoxville is a longstanding neighborhood landmark. When its decades-old façade began to deteriorate, the renovation became an opportunity to preserve the chapel’s character while creating a more welcoming, functional environment for the church community. The front wall was carefully reconstructed with new windows designed to replicate the originals, maintaining the building’s architectural integrity while improving its performance.
Bringing new life inside
The renovation transformed the existing two-story chapel into an office suite and community gathering space, where expansive new windows bring natural light deep into the interior. Updates continue through the children’s ministry with a renewed check-in area, classrooms and nursery designed to create safe, engaging spaces for young families.
A welcoming presence
Outside, brick recladding, fresh paint, new concrete and wood accents give new life to the existing architecture. Contemporary materials complement the church’s traditional character while a distinctive new entry creates a clear sense of arrival. In the evening, the illuminated entrance becomes a welcoming beacon within the surrounding neighborhood.
