A new model for a technology magnet school

Simon G. Atkins Academic & Technology High School was one of the first new high schools to be built in Forsyth County in over 40 years. A technology magnet school, Atkins is unique in that it was designed to house essentially three separate schools, representing biotechnology, computer technology, and pre-engineering.

We worked with school system leaders in conceptualizing a prototype for this hybrid type of school. Three separate two-story classroom wings are connected along a common corridor to encourage collaboration among the schools and provide a sense of unity and common purpose for the students. The use of natural light, color, and technology throughout the school further enhances the student experience.
