The Lofts at Ponemah Mills

Originally developed as a cotton textile mill in the late 19^th century, Ponemah Mills experienced 100+ years of industrial use that brought  economic growth to the village of Taftville, a neighborhood within Norwich, Connecticut. The mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places after closing its doors in the 1970s. It remained mostly abandoned and decaying for the ensuing three decades.

We were engaged to breathe new life into the iconic cornerstone of the Taftville neighborhood by designing the first two phases of a comprehensive restoration and renovation. We replanned  each floor of the long wings of the sprawling building to provide new affordable apartments. We added shared amenities such as a gym, lounge, and outdoor patio with barbecue grills in a courtyard outside the small-scale former steam building. The brick facades, dormers, and distinctive bell towers were restored to their original glory. A rejuvenated landmark, The Lofts at Ponemah Mills once again serves the local community with pride.
