A unique building for a unique practice

The world-renowned Steadman Clinic and its associated Steadman Philippon Research Institute combine practice in orthopaedic sports medicine with scientific research, and education. The ambulatory care center designed for their multi-faceted practice connects to the Vail Valley Medical Center by a pedestrian bridge, and also houses the hospital’s Howard Head rehabilitation center. The architectural character embraces the Rocky Mountain context and promotes the power of healing found in nature.

Lean design

Using lean design principles, the design team organized the building in several zones dedicated to healing, gathering and wellness.  This strategy enhances the patient experience, from a dedicated entrance and seating areas to how they gain access to different treatments. The plan also improves collaboration among physicians, research fellows and therapists by enabling synergies between scientific discovery and patient healing.
