Flexible indoor training and practice facility
Allowing teams to train year-round regardless of weather conditions, McCreary Field House features an indoor, 120-yard, synthetic field and football weightlifting facility with equipment storage and a sports medicine space. Filming platforms are located at each end, and also at mid-field. Co-located with other new campus athletic facilities, the Field House is immediately adjacent to the weight rooms facilities used by WFU’s football, Olympic sports, and basketball programs. The adjacency expands the training opportunities available to student athletes, mixing calisthenics and other athletic training methods into their weight training regimen.
While the 89,000-square-foot facility was built primarily to support the football program, the design is flexible enough to support training and indoor practice needs of other WFU sports teams. Field goal uprights were suspended from the roof structure above in order to avoid installing field goal support posts, which allows for installation of soccer goals, as needed. The design includes overhead doors along the exterior walls for connection to a training hill to the east and outdoor practice fields to the west.
